CIA venture arm In-Q-Tel invests in VR, AR intelligence, collaboration platform

In-Q-Tel (IQT), the venture arm of the CIA, makes a strategic investment in Immersive Wisdom, whose VR, AR, and MR geospatial collaboration and intelligence software platform is used for Battlespace Situational Awareness, Mission Planning and Execution, and Intelligence Analysis, among others.

Immersive Wisdom is a provider of virtual reality, mixed reality, and augmented reality software for diverse industries including government, financial services, and logistics. Its software enables real-time geospatial collaboration and intelligence across both disparate users and data sources.

Applications of Immersive Wisdom include:

  • Virtual Tactical Operations Centers
  • Virtual Cyber Security Operations Centers
  • Distributed mission planning
  • Intelligence analysis
  • Real-time battlespace situational awareness
  • Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR)

On September 5, U.S. Air Force Gen. Mike Holmes, commander of Air Combat Command, and Chief Master Sgt. Frank Batten, command chief of Air Combat Command, used Immersive Wisdom during a visit to the 363rd Intelligence Surveillance Reconnaissance Wing at Joint Base Langley-Eustis, Virginia.

Currently, the 363rd ISR Wing, Joint Base Langley-Eustis, Virginia, is the only wing of its kind across the Air Force. The wing conducts lethal, resilient and ready operations across four key mission areas: analysis of air, space and cyber operations; full-spectrum targeting; special operations ISR; and ISR testing, tactics development and advanced training.

The wing’s dynamically adaptive, problem-centric and audaciously innovative approach provides lethal capabilities and unmatched value for the United States.

In-Q-Tel now looks to improve how US government partners can operate in real-time with its investment into Immersive Wisdom.

“Immersive Wisdom’s real-time collaboration platform will dramatically improve how our government partners can operate across a wide-range of areas,” said In-Q-Tel Senior Vice President Megan Anderson, in a statement.

“Allowing multiple users to be anywhere in the world, while still being connected via the same virtual space containing shared maps, video feeds, and real-time data, offers a significant new edge,” she added.

Users of the Immersive Wisdom platform can simultaneously visualize, fuse, and act upon sensor inputs, cyber/network data, IoT feeds, enterprise applications, telemetry, tagged assets, 3D building models, LiDAR, imagery, and UAV footage/streaming video.

Mike Appelbaum

“Immersive Wisdom is privileged to be a part of the IQT portfolio, and we are grateful to have their validation of the multitude of critical ways that our real-time collaboration workspace and intelligence platform can serve diverse national security missions,” said Mike Appelbaum, CEO of Immersive Wisdom, Inc.

“Our IQT partnership will help us much more quickly fulfill the broad demand for Immersive Wisdom’s software platform,” he added.

Appelbaum’s relationship with IQT goes back over a decade when he led Agent Logic from inception through acquisition by Informatica, growing the company to 75 people with multi-million in revenue.

During his time as CEO at Agent Logic, he built a highly successful partnership with In-Q-Tel, which included a significant investment in the company.

Agent Logic was a leading provider of enterprise event detection and response software backed by In-Q-Tel in 2003. At the time, the deal highlighted the promise of Agent Logic’s Enterprise Agent Server (EAS) to address Intelligence Community needs to detect and respond to changes and events across disparate databases and applications.

In-Q-Tel put Agent Logic’s EAS software through an intensive hands-on technical testing and due diligence process in order to validate its capabilities before concluding the strategic deal.

After Agent Logic was acquired by Informatica, Appelbaum then served as Vice President of Informatica from September, 2009 to December, 2010. As a leader in Enterprise Cloud Data Management, Informatica helps data-driven leaders unleash the power of data to drive their intelligent disruption.

Today, the Immersive Wisdom CEO manages the company that offers a virtual, mixed, and augmented reality software platform for real-time intelligence and multi-user geospatial collaboration.
