FF Councillor on Twitter – Brian Cowen “has indicated that he will step down”

Taoiseach Brian Cowen will step down as leader of the Fianna Fail party on Sunday, if  a tweet from Fianna Fáil Cllr. Aengus O’Rourke is to be believed.

Cllr.  O’Rourke (@CllrAengusOrour) posted a message on his personal Twitter account at 11pm on Saturday which said that Cowen told supporters that he will resign.  O’Rourke gave no indication of the source of the information nor has there been any confirmation from the Fianna Fáil party.

O’Rourke tweeted,

This is not the first time that O’Rourke has suggested on Twitter that the Taoiseach will step down, in a tweet posted on Friday he made a similar prediction, he posted  “Fianna Fail leadership; consultation process with TD’s ongoing – word seems to be that Brian Cowen will accept the inevitable and resign.”

Cowen has been under pressure in the past week to resign after it emerged from the Sunday Times that he meet with Sean FitzPatrick, the ex-head of Anglo Irish Bank, in July 2008, two months before the bank bailout.
