Google TV is one step closer to actuality as Google today launched a new website providing information about the apps and features to expect from the product.
So what is Google TV? Google TV is a platform based on the Android OS that combines traditional TV, the web, and apps, all accessible and searchable from your existing TV and living room couch.
According to Ambarish Kenghe, Developer Product Manager at Google TV, “By bringing Google Chrome and access to the entire Internet, you can easily navigate to thousands of websites to watch your favorite web videos, play Flash games, view photos, read movie reviews or chat with friends—all on the big screen”.
In the five months since Google officially announced Google TV, they’ve been busy acquiring partners including content creators, developers, and advertisers for their platform. They include Turner Broadcasting, NBC Universal, HBO, and NBA. Google has also partnered with on-demand premium content providers like Amazon Video on Demand, and Netflix to bring thousands of movie and TV titles.
Many technology and media companies like Vevo, Pandora, Napster, and Twitter have been working with Google to optimise their sites for Google’s TV service also.
Sony and Logitech will release devices powered by Google TV later this month. In the meantime here’s a quick tour video of Google TV (1:32):
